This genuine Victorian, hand carved, Whitby Jet, portrait Cameo Brooch is circa 1860.

It boasts high relief workmanship that is very well executed showing berries in the hair and high bone structure.

This is all original and genuine Victorian Whitby Jet.

Whitby Jet comes from North Yorkshire and Yorkshiremen have no doubt in their minds that this is the best Jet of all.

Jet has been used as a jewel and talisman for over four thousand years.

Jet is a type of brown coal, a fossilised wood from an ancient tree similar to a monkey puzzle tree.

These trees flourished in the Jurassic period - about 180 million years ago.

Today, Whitby Jet Jewellery is highly collectable and sought after worldwide.

It weighs 24.5 grams.

In very good condition it looks gorgeous when worn.

The dimensions are 43mm across and 50mm down - that's just over 1.75 inches by just over 2 inches.
