This beautiful Victorian Whitby Jet Large Brooch is Circa 1900. The Whitby jet is on a base metal back and pin. This brooch made from a large piece of Whitby Jet. Jet as a gem material was highly popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, during which the Queen wore Whitby jet as part of her mourning dress. Jet was popular for mourning jewellery in 19th Century because of the sombre colour & modest appearance. The brooch is in very good condition and looks fabulous when worn. It weighs 19.5 grams. It measures 50mm across by 35mm down – that’s 2 inches by 1 ½ inches. old code 5295Price:
