These beautiful Whitby Jet hand carved Earrings with Paste Stones is Circa 1900. Whitby jet is hand carved fossilise coal.Jet is also known as “Black Amber”. Jet was popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, during which the Queen wore Whitby Jet as part of her mourning dress. Jet was popular for mourning jewellery in 19th Century because of the sombre colour & modest appearance. Jet has been traditionally fashioned into rosaries for Monks. There are 4 separate sections of Whitby Jet with 2 sections of Paste Stones in between. The Paste stones dazzle brilliantly just like real diamonds. The sparkle of the Paste Stones compliment the blackness of the Whitby Jet creating a beautiful contrast. They weigh 3.4 grams. They measure 8mm across by 30mm down – that’s just over ¼ an inch by 1 ¼ inches. OLD CODE 5063
