These stunning Victorian style large sterling silver marcasite & Amethyst paste insect earrings are so pretty. Each earring is set with a large amethyst paste stone for its body. The beautiful earrings are adorned with sparkling marcasites which glisten like Diamonds. The Amethyst gemstone is a jewel coveted by princes both ecclesiastical and secular. The greeks believed Amethyst gems could prevent intoxication, while medieval European soldiers wore Amethyst amulets as protection in battle. These lovely earrings are in very good condition and look fabulous when worn. They weigh 11.8 grams. The Amethyst paste stone is 7mm across and 15mm down - that's just under 3/8 of an inch by approximately 5/8 of an inch.
